Sweet little story

Brooklyn is spending a few days with her cousin Adi and my moms house this week. I called this morning to see how it's going, and if they were going to get out of the house and go to a park today (the weather has been horrible and we have a little sun this morning before the storms roll in again). Brooklyn told my mom (Grami'mi) she didn't want to go out today she just wanted to play inside. Adi told her that if the clouds come they will just leave the park and go home. Brooklyn didn't want to.

Grami'mi; "We'll say a little prayer"
Brooklyn; "What if it doesn't work?"
Grami'mi; "It always works"
Brooklyn; "But it doesn't always work, cause my mom prays for Gavin to be a good boy, and he's still naughty!"

Doesn't that just melt your heart. Truth is, Brooklyn is very tramatized with storms. We've had enough of them, but a few weeks ago, Brian took Brooklyn out Geo-caching (treasure hunting) in the woods and they walked up to the tornado siren pole. She asked what that was, and he told her "It's to warn you when a storm is coming, and you need to get inside quickly to be safe." Well, not 3 seconds later, and 10 feet away, the siren starts to go off. Those things are peircing loud, and it freaked her like non-other. She ran to the car so fast, Brian said. He's never seen that much speed in a little girl before. To make matters worst, it happened 4 days later to all of us walking out of a store, another pole was only 20 yards away, just as loud. Then, just a week ago, we were at a friends garage sale, and Brooklyn was playing her their back yard as I was talking in the garage with my friends. The first Wednesday of every month (all year long) at 1 p.m the sirens go off for practice. They went off and the fear came running through the door in complete hysterics. My heart just dropped for my little girl. I couldn't calm her down enough to let her know there wasn't a storm coming. She still wanted to go home at that point.

As a mother, you just want to comfort your children in any way possible. I felt useless at that moment. I think Brian and I decided the more information she knows about storms and emergency preparedness, the better it might be. Can anyone guess what our FHE this next Monday is going to be?

Is that true? I suppose so, if the information is balanced and doesn't contribute to the perception that this is something we really have to talk about because it's so bad! Hmm. How does one do that? Anyway, love your blogs, Mia, and am horrified to observe that blogger.com deletes the images and videos after a while! I guess they have to in order to conserve storage. A single image takes as much space as several months worth of text. Makes it more important to grab this and preserve it on the family web site. Love you guys! Carolyn freaked at the count-down timer! Thanks!

P.S. Brooklyn is very cute! She's also intelligent and perceptive! It's going to be difficult keeping her under our intellectual thumb. She's liable to have original thoughts and make intuitive jumps and start making independent decisions based on her own sense of truth and justice. How're we going to counter that? Dangerous.

Those things are loud enough to scare anyone, but little girls especially! I hope the FHE goes well and she learns all about practice sirens.

Her comment about prayer and Gavin is priceless! She's a smart girl and I don't think you'll get too many things by her.

I'm cracking up about your "unanswered prayers"! Thanks for the laugh!

Poor little girl!! That would scare the crap out of me too. What luck to have that happen to her so often. She is soooo cute!
